Within the scope of the monitoring activities of the project (Action D2 “Checking the effectiveness of repopulation activities involving Acipenser naccarii* and other species”), which aims to verify directly the effectiveness of repopulation activities involving the Adriatic Sturgeon* and the 4 species of freshwater cyprinids released after specific spawning and breeding activities, the data downloaded from the buoys is providing interesting information on the movements of released sturgeons fitted with a sonar emitter. 

The sturgeons move at a remarkable speed! Here are some examples of their movements: the sturgeon fitted with transmitter no. 11645 (let us call it sturgeon 11645) had been reported in the area of Santa Maria Maddalena (Rovigo) on 14 August 2017 at 04:36; the next day (15 August), the same sturgeon passed through the area of Papozze at 03:25 - in less than 24 hours, it travelled approximately 40 km! Sturgeon 11607 was released in Piacenza on 16 May 2017, and travelled past Bereguardo on 7 September 2017.


As well as confirming the effectiveness of the monitoring network and repopulation activities, the data being collected provides very important insights into the study of the species.

10/11/2017 - Technical tour of the fish ladder

On 10 November 2017, the delegation of the Regional Department of the Republic and Canton of Ticino was taken on a guided tour of the Enel Green Power Plant on Isola Serafini, led by Eng. Tiziano Putelli, who forms part of the Regional Department Directorate.
The representatives of the Lombardy Regional Authorities took guests on a comprehensive tour of the entire facility. The delegation showed particular interest in the monitoring booth, fitted with two cameras that continuously record the movements of the fish in real time, 24/7, on a PC equipped with a dedicated software designed to recognise and catalogue the number of fish and the species in transit. Another area of interest was the detailed description of the operation of the experimental flux boxes, which form an integral and innovative part of the entire facility. The Enel GP executives who authorised the tour also offered the delegation the opportunity to visit the power plant, accompanied by the Technical Director.

March 17, 2017 - Opening Event of the fish ladder at Isola Serafini


On March 17, two years after the launch of the site, it will be inaugurated the fish ladder in the shape of an inverted Y, placed at the service of the two branches of the River Po affected by the hydroelectric dam of Isola Serafini (Monticelli d'Ongina - PC), to about 300 km from the river delta in the Adriatic Sea.

 The realization of this work allows, after 50 years, to reconnect to the Adriatic Sea at least another 100 km upstream of the dam along the main course of the river Po, and the hydrographic network which underpins that extends over 70,000 square kilometers, including the many sub-basins, including that of the Ticino up to the Lago Maggiore and Lake Lugano.

21 Maggio 2016 - World Fish Migration Day

The World Fish Migration Day (WFMD) is a one day global-local event to create awareness on the importance of open rivers and migratory fish. This event is celebrated for the second time. Over 1000 organizations around the globe are involved.

In two dates, the 16th and the 25th of May, two different schools of the Park will be involved in the restocking activities, and the students will directly release the fishes in the river. It will be the perfect moment to describe the WFMD, and to explain the Park projects in the river connections (fish passes).

The event is part of the dissemination activities forseen in the Life Project "ConfluPo", related to the Po River corridor rehabilitation.
